Chris, who took up his new role at the start of June, is a Professor of Gastroenterology at Newcastle University and Honorary Consultant in Gastroenterology at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He has played a central role in the development and delivery of IBD UK Alliance work over a number of years and brings a strong commitment to driving meaningful improvement.
Chris helped develop the 2026 IBD Standards, which were launched in April. He believes strongly in working together and in making sure the patient voice is heard. We are really looking forward to supporting him in his new role.
Speaking as he took up his new post, Chris said:
“I am delighted to be taking on the role of Chair of the IBD UK Alliance at such an important time for improving care for people living with inflammatory bowel disease across the UK.
“The Alliance brings together a uniquely powerful partnership of patients, clinicians, professional bodies and organisations, all united by a shared commitment to improving outcomes and reducing variation in care. I am particularly passionate about the opportunity to strengthen collaboration across this community, ensuring that lived experience, clinical expertise and system leadership are all brought together to drive meaningful change.
“By working closely with Crohn’s & Colitis UK, the Board, and our wider membership, and supported by the framework of our recently launched 2026 IBD UK Standards, I am confident we can continue to build on the strong foundations already in place.”
